Ecobank Ghana is the leading bank in the country with over 7 million customers, and part of Ecobank Group, which operates in 33 countries in Africa. Remittances are a core part of the bank’s product offering, and the Ecobank Group recently launched an app-based remittance solution for migrants in Europe to send money directly into the receiver’s Ecobank savings account.
In partnership with the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), Digital Disruptions and Ecobank Ghana collaborated to design an engagement to adapt the digital remittance solution from the Netherlands to Ghana remittance corridor.
Using its flagship end-to-end Holistic Innovation Stack™ Methodology, Digital Disruptions began by conducting a dozen interconnected activities in Discovery phase, from in-depth interviews with users in both countries and usability testing of the remittance app, to data analysis, a global product scan, and a quantitative survey with migrant senders – all within four months. Based on the insights, the firm then ran a series of rapid Design Sprints collaboratively with cross-functional members of the Ecobank Ghana and Ecobank Group teams.
This involved building prototypes and testing out with users several key components of the solution, including marketing awareness, product, user interface, training, brand collateral, and financial literacy.
From there, Digital Disruptions then synthesized the learnings into a series of Requirements documents for each feature, and working closely with the respective Ecobank lead to fine-tune the details. The firm and Ecobank are now in the process of jointly building out the key features for an eventual launch of the solution.
Digital Disruptions has been an excellent partner on our remittance project, providing great insights and delivering on our expectations. Their collaborative and scientific approach, quick response, and customer centric focus have been refreshing. I will recommend Digital Disruptions to any institution seeking an effective partner.
